Oxford Networks has constructed an extremely robust fiber optic network designed to meet the transport needs of carriers throughout New England.

We work hard to build redundancy and diversity into our network infrastructure with the goal of eliminating network interruptions. To achieve that goal, we pay very close attention to the three core elements of building and operating a transport network:

  • Fiber Route Diversity: Oxford Networks has a fully ringed optical network from Boston to Bangor. This network includes numerous strategic POPs throughout this footprint.
  • Equipment Reliability/Redundancy: Our DWDM and SONET networks are built on the highly reliable Cisco platform. Our DWDM and SONET shelves are implemented with redundant processors, power supplies, network cards and line side cards. Generator backup is standard at all POP locations.
  • Technical Team: Our team of technicians and engineers have decades of experience building and supporting networks for a diverse cross section of carriers and telephone companies. Our provisioning and implementation teams are prepared to provide prompt circuit turn-ups. In many cases on-net services can be delivered within 48-72 hours.
  • Customized Solutions: Oxford Networks provides customized solutions and accommodates unique needs for our carrier customers. If we aren’t able to serve your location, we’ll consider installing new fiber builds. Our company philosophy is to continue increasing our fiber footprint through strategic and customer specific builds.

Oxford Networks has built a robust Internet network designed to help ISPs provide reliable service for their customers. We provide Internet bandwidth for numerous small to medium sized ISPs in New England.

Why do ISPs choose to buy from Oxford Networks?

Diversity and redundancy are the keys:

  1. We have diverse fiber paths to Boston (the regional hub for most large internet providers).
  2. We don’t buy all of our bandwidth from a single provider. Instead, we purchase bandwidth from multiple upstream providers in diverse geographic locations.
  3. Oxford Networks utilizes reliable Cisco routers. These routers are configured with redundant cards, power supplies and processors.

In addition, Oxford Networks delivers Internet bandwidth to ISPs throughout New England.

All of this translates into a highly reliable internet service that is ideal for many ISPs.

Oxford Networks is meeting a growing need for providing reliable, cost-effective alternative access local loops.

Oxford Networks has built robust FTTP-access networks in numerous communities throughout New England. We currently operate approximately 2,000 route miles of high-capacity fiber optic network which provides access to nearly 50,000 commercial buildings, in addition to numerous lit cell towers. We offer scalable TDM and Ethernet access services over these fiber networks using a combination of Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) and Active Ethernet technologies resulting in cost-effective alternatives to traditional local loop facilities.

As Oxford Networks continues to expand its FTTP footprint in the state of Maine, we provide our carrier customers with quarterly updates to our lit building list.  KMZ files are also provided which serve as helpful guides to understanding where we are able to offer service.  Our simple Facilities Verification Request (FVR) process allows Carrier customers to request service to near-net locations that are not yet on-net.  Our goal is to help carriers meet the needs of their customers.

Oxford Networks provides dedicated and switched ethernet services throughout our footprint over traditional SONET/DWDM networks and a fully ringed 10 Gbps Ethernet backbone stretching from Boston through New Hampshire to as far north as Bangor, Maine.

We provide Layer 2 ethernet transport services as low as 1 megabyte up to 10 gigabytes. For our switched ethernet customers, we are able to provide NNI connections at numerous POP locations throughout New England. (Click here for a full list of POP locations.) This enables us to provision new services quickly and cost-effectively.

Oxford Networks offers a full suite of transport services ranging from DS1 to OC192 throughout our network.

We provide ring protected transport from Boston to Bangor and all other POPs on our network.  We offer diverse handoffs, card protection and scalable interconnection options. We also provide muxing, STS and VT level services.

Oxford Networks offers wavelength services from Boston through New Hampshire and as far north as Bangor, Maine.

We also have the ability to multiplex services or signals onto a single wavelength throughout our footprint. Also, dark fiber is available along certain strategic sections of our network. A list of our POP locations and a dark fiber service request form are available upon request.
